Toys - Creating a Sense of Order

Believe it or not, children actually appreciate a sense of order. They like to find their toys, books and art supplies. Overflowing closets and toy chests offer a challenge most children won't endeavor. Simply put: children don't know where to put things if it's not clear to them. A clutter-free room reinforces independence in children and builds a respect for property. Following are ways to create a sense of order out of children's toys:

Organize toys into categories. Figure out the best place for each category of toys, such as dolls and stuffed animals, art supplies, sports equipment, wheel toys, musical instruments, games and puzzles.

Find places for big things. Situate stuffed animals and dolls on beds, chairs and windowsills - not at the bottom of a toy chest. Park large trucks, cars and planes in a corner, on a shelf, or under a bed. Use large crates to store sports equipment and helmets.

Find places for little things. Invest in some plastic see-through shoe boxes for storing small toys, or create treasure boxes out of recycled cardboard shoe boxes that can be decorated with drawings and stickers. Boxes are helpful for storing small things that children collect like cars, jewelry, or stones. Place art supplies including crayons, glue, pencils, markers, paints and other materials in separate boxes or bins.

Organize books, blocks and puzzles. Children are more apt to explore books that are easily seen. Teach children to place books on shelves. Place puzzles on specially made racks or stored on shelves or in boxes turned on end. To save on your frustration level, teach your children to put puzzles back together prior to storing.

Organize dress up clothes. Dressing up is more fun when the dresses and costumes can be seen. Consider adding hooks in a closet or behind a Door to hang on these points. Mount accessories such as ties, shoes and hats in boxes or drawers.

For more tips on creating a sense of order are:
Before you put one from another.

teach children to respect their property.

Purchase of quality toys and keep in good shape.

Discard worn out and broken toys.

Kids Toys - Too Many Or Just Too Many At One Time

When it comes to keep kids interested in their toys the number one rule is this: don't just buy new toys - rotate them. As parents we tend to buy our kids lots of toys. Then grandparents and other relatives come over and bring even more. The next thing you know your house is overrun with toys. Despite this large selection your child ends up playing with the same 2 things over and over again and you begin to wonder 'why do we have all these toys - lets get rid of them."

Before you bring that big black trash bag and start dumping the extra toys try rotating your child's toys to stimulate new interest and to keep them learning. Kids can often get overwhelmed when there are too many toys to choose from. To overcome this feeling they pick one or two items and tend to play with them exclusively. When a new item is introduced they gravitate toward it right away but then it gets lost in the clutter and kids revert to their old favorites.

The best way to combat this phenomenon is to select a 5 - 10 toys to keep out and available for your child to play with. Choose 1 or 2 from each category - a couple of puzzles, a few building toys, a set of blocks, some pretend play items, etc. Instead of getting rid of the extra toys put them out of sight in the cupboard or in the garage. After a few weeks (or how ever long you think is appropriate for your child) take about 1/3 or ½ of the items and rotate them with the ones you had put away.

The same trick should be used for books as well. Instead of piling tons of books into a regular bookshelf get a book case that allows them to see the front cover of the books so it is easier to see the pictures on the front. Small children are very visual and this type of bookcase will stimulate their desire to look at books and eventually to read on their own. Many parents have traditionally preferred standard bookcases so they can hold all their books in one spot. When you are practicing the rotating method this is no longer a concern. Keep the extra books away in the garage and change the selection every few weeks.

Natural Wooden Toys Are Classic and Fun to Play With

Why you should consider purchasing wooden toys? First, wood makes for very sturdy toys that don't break, they last for years and children love them. Second is the finish: Most are made to be biodegradable and are safely painted with non-toxic paint which is lead free. Many are hand painted, inked or oiled by craftsman. Dyes used should be child-safe, paints should be water-based and natural oil finishes look beautiful. Most wood toys are hand-crafted with love with special attention give to the smallest detail. They last for years and years and can be passed down from one generation to the next. Many are considered a classic, timeless work of art that provide children with hours and hours of imaginative play.

Beauty of wood: Whether is make from mixed hardwoods or maple or oak the natural beauty and appearance of real wood is pleasing to see, resulting high quality toys that will hold up. They last for years and years and can be passed down from one generation to the next. Many are considered a classic, timeless work of arts that provide children with hours and hours of fun playtime with there imagination in full swing.

On of my favorite manufacturers is D and Me, they are a husband and wife working together. There lines features colored pieces that are water-base, with enamel applied by a factory in the United States. All of the wood is from the USA, from sustainable forests and not imported. Each piece is hand sanded, finished, and nicely detailed. The handcrafted wood toys, which have a classic look are meant to be used and played with. Toys in this category include trains, trucks, doll furniture, pull and push toys plus many more. There Klacker toy is a reproduction of a push toy made by Mary's (she is the Me part of the company name) grandpa as a gift for her first Christmas. The klacker is pushed, it makes a unique "klickity klack" sound. (referred to as quiet noise.) The colorful, non-toxic dowels are made from wood. This means as the child uses the toy, you hear a natural noise (wood against wood), rather than the artificial sound.

Another fantastic line is Melissa & Doug, they (Melissa and Doug) started there business in 1988 in the garage of Doug's parents home. They have almost 1000 products and are well know in the industry for quality wood toys, wooden puzzles and games. Creative Playroom Decor

Decorating the playroom can be very funny. You crazy patterns and colors that you normally would not for a normal sleep or other room in the house checked. The games can be fun for the whole family to be involved. Tap your inner creativity and create a game that you can enjoy your child and your entire family.

Children and parents love it, if it is a games room, organized and fun. And do not dig too funny to see attempts to endless boxes of toysmusic on your games and toys. Therefore, the creation of a flexible working to organize fun is number one. You want it before painting or make other plans, because what you decide is best, you may need to be included in photography or work to do in any way.

If you have a large margin, you're lucky. But even smaller games are super organized. It 's easier to keep organized a games room which is divided into play areas or sections. How to divideup to you. You can have each child's toys in certain areas with a community area in the center. You can have developmental toys in one station, arts and crafts in another, a reading center in another area, and computer games in another section. Dividing the room up helps avoid the dreaded mountain of every piece of every toy in the house.

Create physical barrier for each section of the room if you can. A hanging canopy on a hoop can seclude a reading section. A tent can be a fun retreat and place for storing stuffed animals and having sleepovers. A low, double-sided bookcase makes a good divider that is great for storing games and buckets of toys. Tables that store craft supplies and puzzles in the center keep these items from getting mixed up with everything else.

Don't over-organize and make it too difficult for your children to keep the playroom neat. Instead, create general areas where things go and it will remain a lot more organized than if there is an overwhelming number of buckets and bins in one spot. This makes it too easy for kids to just toss everything in with no regard to what it says on each bucket. Place only a few bins in each area, cut off from other areas and you'll have more success.

If your kids are bad about just dumping everything that has parts to it, then you may want to adjust the playroom closet to hold things with pieces that you don't want lost. Kids can earn these items by putting away other items around the room. Make sure there is a clear area for kids to play with board games and other toys with tiny parts.

To make room in the closet, move any clothing off of the existing shelves and hang them on infant hangers or children's hangers. Baby hangers will keep the clothes nice and neat while freeing up space for games and toys with pieces. You can put a lock up high if you want to keep children out of this closet so that you don't have to worry about pieces being lost while they are playing.

Word Search for Kids

Word search puzzles are a fun activity that kids will enjoy doing. However, while they are an enjoyable way to pass the time, especially when the kids get bored - for example, on long plane or train journeys, they can also have educational benefits. One of the things about word search puzzles is that in order to solve them, you must not only focus your attention, but you also must pay close attention to the exact spelling of words.

Most people know how these puzzles are played, but in case you're not familiar with them, I'll give you a brief overview. Basically an array of letters, usually arranged in a grid is printed on a piece of paper. Hidden with the array of letters are words, and the player's objective is to find and circle each of those words. The challenge comes from the fact, that the words can be placed in any direction at all, including horizontal (both left to right, and right to left), vertically (both downwards and upwards), and even in any of the four diagonal directions. Furthermore, the words can overlap, and some letters in the grid may not actually form part of any word - they are just there to distract you.

One of the nice things about modern technology is that with the help of your computer and appropriate software, you can easily create word search puzzles yourself. Simple enter a list of words into the software, and a puzzle is generated for you. You can even tailor the difficulty of your puzzles depending on the age of your kids - for example, by using longer or shorter words as appropriate, or avoiding those difficult diagonal directions for younger kids.

Toys Your Young Toddler Will Love

When considering what toys to choose for your young toddler, (one year olds), it's important to look at the child's abilities and interests in terms of physical, mental and social areas of development.

On a physical developmental level young toddlers exercise and increase their physical skills such as pulling, pushing, dumping, knocking down, and climbing. By two years of age they can usually catch a large ball, string large beads, (beads should be 1 ¾ inches diameter). Toddlers are exploring all these movements and activities but as yet have rarely mastered them.

Mental abilities and interests center on cause and effect and objects that move or can be moved. Children likes to combine objects and make simple block structures, simple stacking toy structures and put simple puzzles together. Curiosity applies to everything around them as young toddlers experiment with objects, group, match, and sort and identify objects. Water play is a favorite and pre-writing skills emerge with the first scribbles and marks on paper. Imitative play begins to emerge in a simple fashion, especially caretaking and housekeeping.

Social ability and interests are focused very much on adults as children attempts adult tasks. Much play is solitary and children tend to play in parallel near each other rather than together. Children express affection for others and show preference for certain dolls, stuffed animals and toys. Being read to is a huge favorite (especially nursery rhymes) as is looking at picture books and picture reading. Interactive games such as tag and peek-a-boo become interesting around 1 ½ years.

Consider the following toys that match the above abilities and interests of your young toddler:

- Push and pull toys with large handles and large wheels. Toys that have special noise and action effects. Doll carriages, wagons, rocking horses, riding toys, small lightweight stacking blocks, solid wooden blocks and large hollow building blocks. Simple pre-puzzles with knobs which are easier to use. Peg boards, hidden object toys and simple pop- up toys, nesting cups, shape sorters, fit together toys, pounding and hammering toys, simple matching toys, number/counting boards, toys with screw on action, dressing, lacing and stringing toys, sand and water play toys that are easy to grasp in one hand, sponges, small shovels and pails, bathtub activity centers, tunnels and colanders, small sandbox tools.

- Sports equipment would include soft, low climbing platforms, tunnels, swings, simple low climbing structures, low slides with handrails, soft light weight balls, chime balls, flutter balls, large balls. All outdoor equipment must be supervised by an adult.

- Make believe play requires its own set of toys such as soft bodied or all rubber baby dolls with no hair or moving eyes or movable limbs. The dolls should fit easily into the child's arms (5-6 inches). Simple accessories for care taking, bottles, blankets, doll clothes, etc. Stuffed toys that are very soft lightweight and easy to handle. Puppets are a favorite, large as well as hand sized puppets to fit the child's hand. Role play materials such as toy telephones, full length mirrors, housekeeping equipment such as pots and pans and utensils, dress up clothes. Also included should be transportation toys such as cars, trucks.

- Musical Instruments such as drums, cymbals, rhythm sticks are also appropriate. Arts and Crafts materials such as large crayons and sturdy large sized paper should be included.

- Books, including cardboard books, soft books, tactile books and books read by an adult.

By choosing toys that are directly related to children's developing abilities and interests, all the while keeping an eye on safety, we support their learning process to the maximum of their abilities.

Obedience Could Mean Life Or Death

When my husband was young he had a little puppy named Bitsy. She was very cute and cuddly with black curly hair. Everyone loved her. One time while traveling he let bitsy out to run for a minute. She ran out into the street. Usually she was very obedient when he called. Seeing a car coming he called to her but this time she did not come. She turned and looked at him but she would not come. He saw her die right before his eyes. He decided right then and there that when he had kids he would teach them to be obedient. There might be a time when it would be life or death. He did not want that to happen again.

Our kids were not perfect and we were not perfect parents but usually are kids were very good and obedient. I had 4 kids before my oldest turned 5. I could take them all to the laundry mat or the grocery store and they were very good. When my oldest was 12 and the youngest was 6 months we were given free tickets to Fiesta, Texas, good for that day only. I called several people to see if anyone could go with me to help with the kids. No one was available. The kids really wanted to go and I knew that it would be a long time before we had a chance to go again. I told the kids that we could go but that since I was the only adult they would have to do exactly as I asked. They could not run ahead, or if I called, they had to come right then. If anyone of them could not follow instructions exactly then we would leave right then and go home. We stayed until they closed that night. The two year old was crying as we walked to the car because he was so tired. His oldest brother carried him the rest of the way. We had the best time. There was no way we could have done that if I did not know my kids would behave.

Its never too late, but teaching kids should start when they are very young. Put things out in your home that they cannot touch. (Do not put out any of your antiques in case of an accident. This is for training purposes.) Teach them not to touch; they can look with their eyes. Kids are very smart and they can learn. They just need someone to teach them. Use any type of discipline you would like but be very consistent. That is the key.

Teach your child that there are times that they need to sit quietly and be still. When you are in the doctors office, or at church, or in an airplane, that is not the time to teach them. Teach them at home. Practice regularly. If they get up, make them sit back down. Make it into a game or a fun time. This would be a good time to have family instruction and maybe treats after. Teach them to come when you call. No questions asked.

There are many things we teach our children, but to me, these are the basics. I heard one time that kids playing on a playground will go right up to the fence to play. When there is no fence, they will stay right around the play equipment and not venture out. They feel safer when they know where the boundaries are. They like to know what the rules are. We have all seen the times when the mothers are chasing their youngsters around doing damage control or wondering why people will not put there nice things up when they come over. They should not have too. There have been times when I have had kids come over and destroy my house. If your kids will learn obedience, you will be happier, your friends will be happy and appreciative, and your kids will be happier also.

The End of Conversations?

Has the age of technology taken over? What do I mean by that question? Let me explain. I love technology just like anyone else, but what I've noticed with today's youth is that the art of conversation is lost.

Our youth connect via computer, emails, online chats, not to mention texting. Have you noticed your cell phone bill, I mean actually studied it? The average youth today will text over 10,000 messages a month. That is scary! Have we become so attached to our electronics that we no longer take the time to converse, in person? I've seen it first hand where my child will be texting at the speed of light. I'll ask her if it will be easier to just dial the number and speak to the person. Her response, "Mom, I don't want to talk to them, it's easier to text". My response was one of astonishment!

Sure, we can blame society and all the pressures placed upon our youth of today, but let's face it..we are to blame as well. Can we live without our phones, computers, or any other type of electronic we may use? Are we passing this down to our children? Are we doing them a dis-service? Imagine your child at a job interview and they are unable to look the person in the eye, much less put several sentences together.

It's sad, but true. Electronics are an addiction. We've decided to limit the use of electronics in our home and get back to the basics. You guessed it.. we are conversing, we are debating, we are actually doing this without the use of an electronic gadget!

Can you take this challenge? Can you unplug for the sake of your family? Sounds crazy but stay with me here. Turn off the television and spend some quality time with your family and friends. It may feel awkward at first, but with several days into this experiment you will be amazed.

Dust off the games, the actual board games, puzzles, checkers, cards, etc and place them on the table. Your children will start to migrate to those so-called old-fashioned games and you will engage in true conversation. It works! Save Money on Kids Toys

Providing a child with a sufficient amount of playthings for their entire childhood can be extremely daunting and stressful on the wallet. Children can get tired of toys quickly and will cease to find them amusing. As they age, they outgrown past toys and therefore require the need to buy more. Toys are a great way for kids to develop their imagination which is a priceless attribute. Many toys are extremely expensive and parents with a low budget might not be able to afford them. However, there are many ways to reduce the cost for kid's toys.

Toys such as crayons, play-doh, figurines, puzzles, and board games are just some examples of cheap toys that can help in the amusement and development of your child. Children couldn't care less how much their toys cost, virtually anything will amuse them and will amuse them for a limited amount of time so why waste money of expensive toys that have the same effect as affordable ones.

An easy way to provide your child with cheap and fun toys would be to create toys at home with crafts and supplies offered at local craft stores. Maybe make it with your child as another way to develop their skill and imagination. Even common household items can be turned into lasting toys. Make sure the items you use are accordingly safe to your child's age. If you have a young child, do not make toys they might swallow.

Garage sales are also a great place to find cheap toys. Toys are almost always sold at garage sales since kids out grow them so easily. Flea markets are also a great alternative if you cannot find a local garage sale.

Buying toys online might also be a great choice. Some site like eBay will sell a large number of toys at a very low price, even with shipping and handling included. It is also much easier to browse these toys since they are all sorted and congregated on one page. You can even rank them by price.

These are only some of the many ways you can provide your child with toys at a low price but the possibilities of saving money on toys are endless, simply use your imagination.

How Video Games Prepare Your Child For the Real World

Video Games have been controversial since graphic technology evolved enough to display human shapes. The first generation of video games, like Pong were so graphically void they portrayed zero violence. Modern counterparts such as Grand Theft Auto are much more advanced graphically and in terms of violent content. And although parents fear the effects of violent video games, violence in video games is similar to violence in movies; the characteristics of a sub-genre do not define the whole spectrum. In fact, the positive potential of video games has just recently been tapped by the development of the Wii-which urges people to be physically active-and other games that promote brain development and have been used to fight memory loss in Alzheimer's patients.

So for all the skeptical parents, here is a list of the positive effects video games can have on your child:

- Improved Hand-Eye Coordination and Reflex.

Independent studies have shown that gamers' reflexes are on average 100 milliseconds faster than non-gamers. Several video games demand precision and extreme mental nimbleness from the player, which through constant exposure leads to superior reflexes.

- Improved Memory

Do you know who Charizard is? Chances are your child does. Your child probably also knows at what level it evolved from a Charmeleon, at what level it will learn the fire-blast move, and what elements it is strong and weak against. Furthermore, your child likely knows this data about hundreds of other Pokemon and actively uses this information while playing the game. And while none of this may seem useful in the real world, the fact that your child is developing neuron connections and the ability to store and manage massive amount of data is.

- Develop Strategic Thinking, Planning, and Research Skills

But managing data is not enough to be successful at playing video games. Thorough analysis and careful application of data is key to a gamer's success. Developers fill their games with puzzles and other mentally engaging elements in order to make the game more rewarding and enjoyable to the gamer; because an easy game isn't usually all that fun. And since challenges are the assets of games, gamers become strategic masters. Take Civilization for example, a game in which you have to manage your people, your limited resources (which includes time), and your armies. Games often require you to make choices and hold you responsible to your decision. Thus planning and research (often conducted online) is another asset that any successful gamer must posses.

- Foster Determination, Discipline and Persistence.

The one thing games don't teach you is to give up. Save points exist before any hard challenge giving the user the opportunity (and quite frankly encouraging them) to go back and try again. This teaches discipline and determination, as any obstacle is conquerable with enough training and practice. Several boss fights, races and game matches are played several times until finally the player is able to reach his goal through strategic thinking and practice.

- Adapt to New technologies and Environments

Game consoles are constantly getting more technologically advanced, and games are getting proportionally harder and more complex. This forces kids to become accustomed to an environment in which technology is constantly changing, and urges them to develop an adaptive personality to keep up with all the changes and the increasing difficulty of game play.

But Beware...

Like anything in life, there is the good and the bad. There are several video games that promote violence, and even if they don't explicitly promote it, they make it seem like a viable way of solving your problems.

Also equally pernicious are games that urge the player to constantly play in order to get rewards. Most of these games are online, and they are designed to be addictive (and they are extremely addictive). World of Warcraft and Maple Story are well known for this tactic.

There are however some kid friendly online games out there which allow your child to play online kids games in a safe environment.

There are several educational video games out there for your child to benefit from. The key, as with everything else in life, is to make an informed decision.

Create a Puzzle As a Unique Gift

Do you have trouble coming up with unique gift ideas? You are certainly not the only one. We all love to give interesting and exciting gifts to people, but their reaction is not always what we expected, or wanted, it to be. That is because these days people have almost everything they want, and those things they still desire are usually prohibitively expensive and beyond your budget for a gift in most cases.

So where does that leave you?

One really unique gift that I have found involves being able to create a puzzle based on personal photos of your choosing. They are suitable for just about every occasion where you give a gift, such as birthdays, Christmas, anniversaries, reunions and more.

Who Can Use The Puzzles?

Just about everyone will be able to put the pieces of the puzzle together. Young children will enjoy the challenge and adults will be excited to see what all the pieces reveal.

How Does It Work?

To start creating your puzzle, just select a suitable picture from your collection of digital photos on your computer or digital camera, and then upload it to the photo puzzle service website. The designers there will then proceed to make a unique family photo puzzle using your photo. You can also use a selection of photos to create a photo collage puzzle. Of course, they don't have to be family photos but can be anything you enjoy looking at or brings back a memory.

For example, your gift recipient may own horses and absolutely adores them. So you might dig up some photos of the person with her horses (or just the horses on their own) and provide these to the puzzle making service. They will then organize these photos on the puzzle into a beautiful photo collage. This will absolutely delight the person who receives your gift as it shows that you have paid attention to her interests and have gone to extra effort to create a special, personal gift.

You don't have to solely rely on digital images though. You can also submit children's paintings, old Polaroid photos or any other artwork or image that will be suitable for including in the puzzle design. These can be sent by regular mail and let the puzzle company scan the original photos or artwork to use on the jigsaw. There really is no need to buy gifts worth hundreds or thousands of dollars when you can create a puzzle based on personal photos that will please and excite anyone.

How To Choose a Preschool

Choosing a preschool for your child requires knowing what you want in a preschool and then asking questions to see if the schools in your town match what you are looking for.

There are many philosophies on working with toddlers. Some programs offer academic curriculums and some don't. Some offer a pre reading program and some don't. Some offer a lot of social opportunities and some don't.

So what questions can you ask to see if the program offered is a match for you?

Let's start with the hours of the school. Some schools open as early as 7:00 a.m. for before school care and some school open at 9:00 a.m. when the preschool day begins. If you need to be at work at 8:00 a.m. then you'll first need to narrow your choices to those schools that offer before school care.

It is my suggestion that you visit the school without your child. Speak to the director of the school and ask what the best time of day is to visit. You'll learn more by visiting during indoor time versus outdoor time.

Most schools have a rough time schedule of what the kids do while at school. Does this time table fit what you hoped to have for your child? My children went to two different schools. My older daughter needed more structure. At the school she went to, the kids moved from class to class. One class was manipulatives such as puzzles, while another room had dress up clothes and yet another room held art supplies. Finally, the last room was what I called the academic room. You could find letters and numbers and books in this room. This system worked wonderfully for her.

My other daughter went to a school where academics were non existent, but socialization was constant. This very much fit the child she was and met both her needs and my needs.

So, it's very possible to find a good school with a great program, but have it not be the right fit for your child.

I also suggest meeting with a kindergarten teacher when making your choice to find out what the kindergarten teacher at YOUR school hopes to see when your child enters the kindergarten classroom on day one.

Here are some questions you can ask when visiting:

1. Do you teach reading and writing at all? Please remember, there is not a right or wrong answer. You, as a parent need to know whether this is important to you. As I mentioned, for one of my daughters it was quite important and for the other child, it was not at all on my list of what was important.

2. What is the adult/child ratio the school tries to maintain? Every state dictates what the state requires, but all schools have their own set of guidelines within the state system. My older daughter was in a school that did not use teacher's aides. However they kept the classes small. My younger daughter was in a school that utilized teacher's aides and so the ratio was very small like 3:1, even though the state allowed a much higher ratio. With more children in the class, there is also more opportunity for playmates.

3. What is the sick child policy? Every school has a different sick child policy. As a mom, I did not want my kids around sick kids all the time. On the other hand, I knew if my child had a runny nose, I'd probably be called to come pick her up.

4. How often are new toys bought and how often are old toys thrown out? This was important to me, both because of safety but also the longer a toy is in circulation the more germs live on it. At some point, the dirt just doesn't wash off anymore. Also, times change and new toys come out on the market. In addition, when dealing with items like puzzles, pieces will disappear. I wanted my child to be able to complete the puzzle, not have one piece missing.

5. What is the communication system between the school and the parent? Some schools send home a monthly calendar of the upcoming month, while some schools send out a letter on Friday that sums up the week in review. Most schools have conferences. Moms like to hear how wonderful their preschooler is. If the school detects what they believe might be a problem such as hearing, speech, sight, or even a behavioral problem, what is their method of informing you?

6. How are the children separated? Is it by age? Are there multiage classrooms? Does the system this school uses for developing classes meet your needs and the needs of your child? Every child is different. My older daughter did best with kids her own age. My younger daughter did great with kids of many ages.

7. What are the food rules at this school? Do children bring their own lunch? Are snacks served? Is the school peanut free? Some preschools choose to be peanut free to accommodate children who have peanut allergies. Are hot lunches served? If so, ask for a month long menu to see what foods are offered.

Without your child, it's important for you to observe a class. Do the children interact with each other and with the adults? Do the children play both alone and with others? Are you seeing activities and toys that allow the child to be unique and creative? Or is every child told to make the same color flower? Children are children. If you see two kids argue, how does the teacher solve the problem? How large are the classrooms? Is there enough space for different children to be playing with different items? For example is there space for two girls to play dress up while two boys build a train track? Where are the bathrooms in relation to the classroom?

Plan to visit the school during drop off time. Are kids eagerly running to their classrooms or are most kids unhappy to be there?
If you feel the school matches what you want, ask if you can bring your child for one day. Most schools will allow a test day. If your child is happy, you've just found the right school to enroll your child in.
