Word Find Puzzles

Word find puzzles (sometimes referred to as "word search puzzles" or "word jumble puzzles") are puzzles were the goal is to find a number of words hidden within apparently random grid of letters. The challenge of the puzzle arises from two facts. Firstly, not all letters are actually part of a word. And, secondly, words can begin at any point in the grid and head off in a straight line in any direction at all, be that horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, including such hard-to-spot directions as right to left, upwards, and backwards diagonals.

Many people enjoy solving these types of puzzles, and children in particular can get a lot of enjoyment from them. Additionally, apart from being a peaceful but fun indoor activity for kids, another reason to introduce children to them as that they can be used both to introduce new words to children (and thus expand their vocabularies) and as a means of helping children pay attention to the exact spelling of words (hopefully improving their spelling skills).

It is possible to buy printed books containing word find puzzles, but if you want to legally use them in your own magazine or newsletter, or perhaps you're a teacher wishing to  introduce them into a classroom, why not create your own?  Furthermore an additional benefit of creating your own word find puzzles is that you can choose exactly which words are used in the puzzle, and thus theme the puzzle around any topic you like. Creating these puzzles is very simple with the help of a computer and some word find puzzle maker software - you simply enter a list of words and the software creates the puzzle for you.  More sophisticated software packages even allow you to choose the word directions used (perhaps avoiding the harder directions if making a puzzle for younger children), or make custom shaped puzzles (for example, a Christmas tree shaped letter grid if making a Christmas themed puzzle).

Dog Psychology - A Paradox

Once the dominant dog has taken the lead role within the pack relationship they will challenge losing it. This is what I refer to as the paradox effect within the context of Nature and the pack roles. Getting the dog to see the owner differently and associated to the dominant position within the pack requires the ability to understand this transition from the right perspective. The owner needs to understand the context of the role changing transition to help with creating and maintaining the psychological shifting of power.

I often use the example of being the boss of a large company. As a boss imagine the stress this position creates with dealing with employee issues and the added responsibility. Suddenly the owner of the company decides to transfer you into the position of file clerk based on the greater good of the company. Your immediate reaction may be to challenge and resist this sudden changing of roles. The paradox of this situation is that once you have transitioned into this new role you begin to change how you think. Suddenly you realize the stress and anxiety is gone. You don't have to deal with all the added responsibility anymore, you feel happier. You realize the owner actually did you a favor even though at the time you challenged the decision and went kicking and screaming all the way.

Transitioning the dominant dog to the follower role follows a similar path within the pack relationship. They will not like this changing of roles. The psychological shift is perceived as challenge to the dominant dog and a level of "not liking" results. The level of challenge and amount of time it takes to transition a dog into the follower role depends on how much power the dog has gained within the relationship. The benefits however of creating and maintaining a follower role for your dog are the same. The stress and anxiety caused from being in this dominant pack role are gone. Behaviors which were linked to this elevated possessive and authoritative state of being are diminished.

Changing how we think can be especially difficult when facing resistance and challenge to transition. Certain reactions to authority feed into our emotions in a way which can empower this already dominant role. This links to human psychology in a way which conflicts with Nature. By surrendering to what Nature demands and admitting defeat without being defeated almost anything is possible.

How a Child's Curiosity With Toys Can Help Them to Explore the World Around

Children have always needed toys for entertainment. It might be Mom's pots and pans and a wooden spoon or Dad's tools they like playing with. They must have ways to channel their energies and the more they learn from playing, the better equipped they will be to deal with life.

With some of the newer toys, it's been said that one may buy a child a new toy and he or she will play with the box instead. They need to exercise their curiosity and explore new things. To some children opening and closing a box, putting things in the box and taking them out again is enough to keep them busy. Other children need more to arouse their inquisitive little minds and busy, busy fingers.

Toys that also teach are better for the child. Making play time a learning experience will always appeal to the parents of young children. There are innumerable toys that teach colors, letters and numbers.

Play kitchens and playing dress up will always be a favorite for the little girl who wants to be like Mommy. Little boys have the same inclinations, but for them it's Dad they want to imitate. Stomping around wearing Dads boots or building a make believe house with plastic tools and a bench like Dad's is always intriguing to little minds.

Children learn and develop their minds and bodies in different ways. While one child may be happy in Dad's boots, you'll find the other one trying out Dad's favorite chair with a book.

Many toys today help in the development of hand-eye coordination. Something as simple as a stack of plastic rings teaches the child about colours and sizes. It doesn't take long for them to figure it out. Any toy that helps them to feel grown up will be a hit for toddlers and pre-schoolers.

Plastic puzzles and puzzle maps where the child has to insert the correct size and colour of the state, in the same manner as putting together a puzzle, will keep little fingers busy for some time.

The battery operated ride in cars, trucks, and four wheel vehicles will always be a popular item with children who have reached school age. These toys create the perfect opportunity for parents and children to play together and have lots of family fun. The hand-eye coordination and motor skills the child experiences are a huge help in their development process. Again, it's another activity that helps them feel more grown up.

Toys on today's market are more sophisticated and the children seem to have become more intelligent to cope with these new developments. The newly developed learning toys that teach a second language have become very popular.

Operating remote controlled airplanes, helicopters and vehicles can be just as much an adult recreational activity, as it is for children. The building logs of long ago are a staple in almost every toy box and they are still available today, because they teach children the concepts of being creative.

The Intricacies of China Unseating Germany As the World's Biggest Exporter! (Part 2)

In the first segment of this article, the author deliberated on the episode surrounding the call for revaluation of the currency of China to forestall the growing trade imbalance between China and the rest of the world. In that segment, the author attributed the demand for its export as not only due to its low valued currency but also to other factors such as government subsidies for firms and investors, expansion in its trade horizon internationally and piracy problems. It was deduced that piracy was taking market share from the western world and also reducing the required imports for China. In this segment of the article, the author would like first to consider some pertinent issues surrounding the trade imbalance between China and the rest of the world especially the western world. Second, whether the growing trade imbalance poses a threat in terms of monopoly. Third, whether the world has options to deal with the situation.

From the perspective of exports and imports composition, the following are some trade statistics estimates for China;

Exports - $ 1.435 trillion (2008 estimates)
Main Export partners (2008 estimates) - U.S 18.6%, Hong Kong 12.7%, Japan 8.2%, South Korea 5.1% and Germany 4.2%

Imports - $1, 074 trillion (2008 estimates)
Main Import partners (2008 estimates) - Japan 12.2%, South Korea 10%, U.S 6.6%, Hong Kong 4.9% and Germany 4.5%

According to the Center for Trade Intelligence report in 2007, China generally exports low tech goods which include but not limited to computers, printers (storage units generally), cell phones, video recorders, television, electronic integrated circuits, puzzles, toys, telephones, handbags, wallets, non-knit women and girls suits, leather footwear among others. Its topmost exports are computers, printers, storage units, office machine parts, cell phones, video recorders and radio transceivers. The topmost imports includes but not limited to electronic integrated circuits, computer and office machine parts, television radio and accessory parts and crude oil. Also, based on the report, China had much trade surplus with countries like Hong Kong, United States, Netherlands, United Kingdom and Spain in descending order of surplus magnitude whilst it had trade deficits with countries like Angola, Saudi Arabia, Philippines, Japan and South Korea in ascending of deficit magnitude. These statistics do suggest that China tends to have surpluses with the western world and on the hand deficits with developing world. Perhaps, the net is the surplus since the surplus with the western world is huge compared to the deficit with the developing and under-developed world. Ultimately, it is right to say that the trade imbalance with the world is the result of high balance of trade surplus with most countries including United States and United Kingdom. From the structure of its exports, it presupposes that China would need much technological innovation to keep up with its exports. Hence, the country cannot do without high tech machinery and other industrial inputs from the western world.

In fact, resilience and low-tech manufacturing alone cannot support its exports. An economic analysis suggest that in the long term the trade imbalance should not pose a threat only if the country's surplus in totality is expected to dwindle which is currently becoming evident. This is because recent reports have it that China's total trade surplus has shrunk to $196.07 billion down 34.2%. As an analyst the decrease is not shocking considering the global slump in demand. Also, it can be inferred that if the global slump continues and domestic demand in China continues to increase, then imports by China would also increase. Increased import is possible because of the country's large population. Next, the increased imports would factor into the exports bringing down the surplus. In the longer term this would reduce drastically the surplus and pave the way for fair competition between China and the world. It must be emphasized that the dwindling in surplus should come predominantly from an expected increase in its imports as against its exports. Nevertheless, the resilience of the Chinese manufacturer to keep exporting may prove this analysis wrong. Eventually, these developments do not suggest a monopoly of the market by China and so there is no need for paranoid expectations.

Now, there is another salient reason why China is enjoying export superiority and that has got to with price elasticity of products in the current global recession. In the current slump of global demand, two things are imminent: the market has become competitive and goods are likely to be price elastic which makes it difficult to make profit. Under such prevailing conditions, any attempt to raise price could lead to a loss. Contrarily, lowering price can lead to increased sales and possibly profit. Apparently, the ability of China to present low priced products promotes its sales, exports ensuring more revenue and profitability. Again, China seems to be successful in this era because of its ability to take advantage of the price elasticity of goods in the current global slump in demand to make more sales and consequently profit. It also suggest the country's industrial and manufacturing sector is exhibiting economies of scale in the production of its goods and this is also a plus for its exports.

The whole story of the trade imbalance does not depend solely on the aforementioned factors but it is indirectly enhanced by the country's growing capital investment predominantly its direct foreign investments and portfolio investments. These two components of capital investment are serving as a backbone for its increasing export as they are consumer confidence boosters for the Chinese economy. The increased direct foreign investments and portfolio investments by China in other economies coupled with the huge accumulation of foreign exchange rate reserves is creating consumer confidence internationally in China's capability and its products even though there are cases of a down side to the quality of its products and also its investments. Additionally, the country's huge foreign reserves can be used to intervene in the foreign exchange market to influence its currency the yuan. Such action plan China may not do unless under severe pressure to strengthen or weaken its currency. Until then market forces will determine the yuan rate as it is allowed to float. Interestingly, for those economies with strong currencies as against China, opportunity is however available as well through the attraction of Direct Foreign investment and portfolio investments. On the downside products from such countries are expensive and unattractive but on the upside if their economy offers favorable low tax rates on earnings, have high interest rate and a stable exchange rate, they qualify as feasible candidates for Direct Foreign investment and Portfolio investment.

Now, I would not like to end this article without talking about the impact of inflation on China's goods pricing in the midst of the country's stunning GDP growth. China's inflation rate is comparatively high. Consumer Price Index (CPI) measures inflation and according reports, this value climbed 1.9% in December 2009 year-on-year. However, the low-value of its currency coupled with government subsidies overrides the potency of inflation. On the other hand, this is not sustainable as inflation can be a problem considering the increasing domestic demand in China. The increasing demand due to the large population coupled with a droop in supply of goods (imports) could trigger an increased inflation (demand-pulled). Additionally, increased demand for raw materials by its industrial and manufacturing sectors as against a fall in global supply of raw materials can augment inflation (cost-pushed) in China and globally. This suggests that it is not the CPI statistic alone that will be affected by these developments but also the Producer Price Index (PPI) statistic which should be a bother to producers in China. These developments may also prompt increased interest rate by the Chinese government to curb inflation.

Finally, the world may not have enough feasible options to deal with the trade imbalance situation except of course to pressure China to revalue its currency. However, with regards to the subsidies from the Chinese government, it is an internal affair which cannot be influenced from an external source. The rest of the world may have to agree with China to promote a global free and fair market. Another option is for the world to do nothing and allow the global slump and market forces to deal with the situation in the longer term. The imposition of tariffs and quotas may have only a minimal effect and should not be resorted to.

Conclusion

The recent economic news about China unseating Germany as the world's largest exporter has undoubtedly enlightened the world about the emergence of China as the new economic world super power and possibly a locomotive engine for the world economy. Behind these developments is the assertion that the feat has been enhanced by the low value of the Chinese currency the Yuan making its exports attractive and more competitive. Consequently, it is expected that in the next few months or years, China will be compelled under growing pressure to reevaluate its currency to make its products less competitive so as to obviate the growing trade imbalance between China and the rest of the world. However, it is not only the low valued currency that is responsible for low priced exports but also other factors namely government subsidies and financial assistance, China's trade horizon, piracy problems and price elasticity of goods in the global recession. Unfortunately, addressing these problems may prove a herculean task as there are not many options available for the world.

4 Great Ideas For Making Christmas Spectacular For Your Kids

This Christmas many parents are wondering what toys and activities to do with their kids this Christmas. If you have more than one child you have already set some family traditions to at least govern the activities and you are becoming an old hat at choosing presents. If you are just starting out and this is your kid's first Christmas that he is aware of, you are probably looking for some advice. Another factor is the economy you might be a parent who has to find more creative solutions for providing a great Christmas experience for your children with a smaller budget. Here are some suggestions to help you achieve a holiday that your whole family can enjoy.

It is important to have a plan and try to avoid making some of the shopping mistakes you might have made last year.. This could be anything from procrastination to not researching the latest toy to come out. Give yourself a blueprint for how you want Christmas to play out. It may not go 100% to plan but it will help you have a general set of guiding principles that will make it much simpler and even cheaper to achieve.

When it comes to picking out toys for your kids take into account what is popular that year for boys and girls. For boys standard gifts will revolve around cars or toys based off of popular movies. For example toys tied to the X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie will most likely be on your son's wish list. For girls things have pretty much remained the same with toys that are dolls, or kitchen play sets. This year Disney franchises such as the Hannah Montana show and Sunny with a Chance have become really popular so any toys or merchandise from these shows will be sure to wind up on the list especially if your daughter is slightly older.

A great affordable idea is to have stocking stuffers. These are a variation on the presents under a tree. Have your kids decorate stockings and hang them somewhere near the Tree or over the fireplace if you have one. Then you can fill them with candy and small toys and other fun items such as puzzles. They are great for younger children because it gives a lot of different items to play with. They also can be use to give your kids proof that Santa stopped by for good little boys and girls.

For a parent wanting to do something extra special to reaffirm a child's belief in Santa Claus you can also make use of special services from online holiday companies. One of them is the letter from Santa. The idea is affordable and deceptively simple but the impact for your children will be amazing. The concept is that you order a letter with particulars about your child and how they have been good all year. Then on Christmas day a letter from Santa will arrive at your home addressed to your child and with a special North Pole postmark. You child will be thrilled and feel reassured that Santa is out there. You can also have the letter customized for special occasions or as a way to cheer up a child going through a tough time. The service is just one of many ways that you can make the Holidays special and unforgettable for your children.

Things Parents Can Do to Develop Kids' Motor Skills

As the parent of a young child you may be wondering what you can do to help foster the development of motor skills. Motor skills are extremely important building blocks for a number of academic skills that your child will need when entering school. There are a lot of activities that parents can do with their child to help enhance their fine and gross motor skills. Many people don't realize how these skills can affect a child. The development of motor skills allows them to perform better in other, more academic and physical ways. Basically motor skills are divided into two groups: fine and gross.

Fine motor skills are those skills which involve the manipulation of the hands and fingers in conjunction with vision (also known as hand-eye coordination). Gross motor skills are those that involve the use of any large muscle group. In the early years of childhood development having the right activities for your child can help them develop and hone their motor skills. Here are some things parents can do to help promote the development of motor skills.

- Fine motor skills - These are the skills that allow you to develop the ability to do such things as write and manipulate small objects. Try these simple activities to help your children along the way.

1. Coloring is perhaps one of the easiest ways to help your child develop their fine motor skills. Coloring books have a variety of levels from the simplest shapes to far more complicated pictures. You can have your child use crayons, markers, colored pencils or even chalk. For some freehand coloring try putting up paper on a small easel, on the wall or even on a door to give your child a new perspective.

2. Painting. Try alternating between large, stubby brushes and smaller, finer brushes. The smaller the brush is, the more control the child will need over their hands. Also try getting your kids to do some painting with cotton swabs. This affords some really fine work and allows them to develop their pincer grip which is needed for learning how to write. Have your kids try finger-painting, stamping and even sidewalk painting for some added variety.

3. Puzzles-For younger children; it may work best to start them off with large peg puzzles. These are puzzles that have a little knob sticking out of each puzzle piece. This allows them to gain more control over their finger movement. For starter puzzles you can buy them with very large knobs that require a full fisted grip then you can move onto the puzzles that require a thumb and forefinger grip (pincer grip).

- Gross Motor Skills - These are the big motor skills; i.e. running, jumping and hopping etc. They require balance and coordination. To help develop these try some of these activities-

1. Running. Create a game that requires moving quickly. This is great for encouraging the development of gross motor coordination.

2. Climbing. Take them to the park and let them climb all over the jungle gyms. Climbing seems to be an innate characteristic of children. You may have noticed it when they started climbing onto the coffee table as a toddler! Each time they try, they will get a little better because they are developing those important gross motor muscles.

3. Hopping. Set up a game of hopscotch. All that hopping about is really about developing some balance.

4. Encourage ball play. Kicking, rolling and throwing are some great ways to encourage gross motor development and you will not need anything more that a ball and a little bit of room. Smaller balls require a little finer control but you should aim to get a ball that can be easily picked up. A very large ball for a younger child can be difficult to manipulate and get very frustrating, very fast.

What Kind of Toys Are Helpful For Autistic Children? Find Out

Are you aware of how difficult it is to search for toys for children who have autism? It is difficult, because they do not find the same interest and play with toys as most children do. What is being done about this challenging issue, is, there are more companies and resources to resolve this frustrating problem, by creating toys that are made for the purpose to enhance sight, sound, and texture to create interest to the autisc child.

Autism affects the ability of the child to communicate and interact with others, play, and learn like other children their age. In addition, it has a wide range of characteristics and causes a multitude of different problems. Many children feel uncomfortable interacting with others. They would rather play alone until they feel more conifident and comfortable to interact with others. Most children with autism display a lack of social play or make-believe play.

There has been extensive research on what kinds of toys and play things children with autism most enjoy. Although it will be different for all children, the following are some examples of toys autistic children have found interesting. First, they often enjoy toys that are visually stimulating, like shapes, colors, and something as simple as bubbles. They also enjoy visually stimulating objects like puzzles and interactive books. Toys that stimulate touch, for example, books or toys with flaps and different fabrics or materials, seem to be the toys they gravitate to. Toys that make noise, such as amimals, dolls, or other items that play music or sing songs, are the ones, they enjoy. As a child ages, it is important to incorporate computerized software to assist in developing vocabulary and tasks, for example counting.

To help develop communication skills, play therapy or floor time therapy, is a play technique that incorporates a specific toy to gain interest of the child for playtime. Many children with autism do not relate to play into relationships or communication, so the intent of play therapy is for the child to interact the way they choose to. In addition, if the child chooses to play with a toy car, he or she may choose another car to bump into a different car, forcing them to get away from obsessively focusing on the one car itself, but instead on the act of play.

Many therapists and parents have been through the difficult task of trying to find the right toys for their special needs of children with autism. There were times in the recent past that parents struggled with this problem and could find no answers. Parents, therapists, who are inventive and creative, decided to create toys that would fit the needs of children to play and have fun with. That would help and influence children with autism to be creative also. Advice on toys, that will influence autistic children, have now made parents aware of the numerous outlets that are available. One way to learn about advice on different toys and what would be a good fit for your child, is to search the web sights and find out what would be advantageous for your child.

With the expansion of the internet at your fingertips, you can connect with parents who are currently being challenged with this issue of finding toys, and other parents who have done their research and successfully found what is right for their child, may be helpful for your child. Searching for toys should involve being open to creativeness, new ideas and understanding your child.

Eleuthera and the Deep Blue

Soon after I completed my doctoral dissertation, we followed the advice of family and friends who suggested that my husband, Steve, and I needed a vacation for just the two of us - leaving our two young children behind. My parents drove to our home in New Jersey and assured us that everything would be fine; we should "not think about anything at home - just relax, recuperate, and enjoy each others company."

During the five days away, we soaked up the warmth of Eleuthera - a tiny Bahamian slice of heaven, with white, powdery sand and little else. Steve and I read, slept, completed New York Times crossword puzzles, watched the families on the beach, and missed our own toddlers terribly.

Each evening, after washing off the sand and combing our sunburned scalps, Steve and I enjoyed the Catch of the Day at one of the four or five tables in the panoramic, beach side restaurant. The other sunburned vacationers who dined with us were those with whom we had also shared the beach earlier in the day. The tiny, octagonal restaurant was not much bigger than our dining room at home, making it hard not to overhear conversations at the nearby tables.

At a table not more than four feet from ours sat a mother, father, and two teenagers. Each night, the parents and daughter came dressed in colorful summer attire, appearing to have stepped out of a Talbot's or a J. Crew catalog. Their son, who looked to be about 16 years old, was dressed entirely in black and around his neck he sported a leather strap with shiny protruding silver spikes (not unlike those dogs wear in cartoons). His only concession to color was seen in the neon yellow tips of his sculpted, pointy "Mohawk" hairstyle. From our perspective, this lad seemed to be from another family altogether (maybe even another planet?)! We were mesmerized.

Steve and I found ourselves watching and discussing this family throughout our stay. The "Mohawks" (we didn't know their real names) in many ways looked like a typical family; they laughed, played games, talked in seemingly cheerful tones, and stuck together on the beach and after dinner. They seemed genuinely to enjoy each others company. As Steve and I were (relatively new) parents of children who were both under five, we compared notes on how we might react if one of our own came downstairs one morning dressed like this boy with the "Goth" getup. "What had the parents done to make this child feel the need to be so rebellious?" we asked each other. He seemed like such a "good kid" - so why did he feel the need for the spooky spikes?

On the night before we left, while strolling along the beach after dinner, we struck up a conversation with Mr. and Ms. Mohawk. After some requisite small talk about where we each were from and how we chose Eleuthera, I spoke up. "We couldn't help noticing your family this week." (The mother looked interested and Steve looked a tad concerned.) "On the beach, on the tennis courts, and at dinner, we have been impressed by how the four of you seem truly to enjoy each others company." Steve now looked at me with an expression I read as, "Okay. Good place to stop, Marth." But I continued, "When we have teenage children, I hope that we enjoy time together as much as the four of you clearly do." Steve's face relaxed.

The mother of the mohawked son smiled. "We don't always get along so well, of course," she began, "Sometimes I can't stand the bickering between our kids! It has gotten better in the past couple years." And then, she made a comment that stuck with me for a long time: "The real trick of parenting teenagers is to respect your children for who they are. You have to keep everything in perspective." She paused, "It's just hair." I felt my face flush - She was on to me! "It's all about communication," she continued. "We try to just keep talking and listening; sometimes it is really important to pick your battles, and before you know it, your kids are going to be making their own decisions."

We were speechless that evening next to the Eleurtheran surf. Steve and I had initially made judgments about the teenage boy (and, by association, his parents), based only on his spiked hair and human dog collar. What an awesome parenting lesson his mother had now shared - a simple message about acceptance and unconditional love. Steve and I were (relatively naive) parents of two toddlers who seemed to need parental limitations and guidance almost every waking hour of every day! At this stage in our lives, it was hard to imagine a time when our children would be in school, let alone teenagers making controversial, complicated choices. As is life, the time passed more quickly than we could have imagined.

Fourteen years later, our own son, Scott, was almost fifteen and about to enter the ninth grade. It was on the eve of his first day at a new high school, when he came into our bedroom and announced that he was going to dye his beautiful, blond hair a deep blue...and he wondered if I would like to help. As they had been many times before, our spontaneous parenting techniques were being put to the test.

On the night of the deep blue hair debate, the three of us stayed up much later than any of us intended. We talked about all of Scott's choices. Neither Steve nor I ever said that Scott could not dye his hair blue. We did ask him questions about his rationale and intended reactions. Scott articulated that his aim was to see if the other students would still accept him or decide that he was a "loser" if his hair were blue. His assumption clearly was that they would not, since they would all be "conforming, snobby, kids of the Massachusetts aristocracy." In the most neutral tones we could muster, we reflected on how new teachers and classmates might perceive his choice, and we discussed the possible consequences (positive and negative) of arriving at a new school with deep blue hair (which he had pointed out was the school color).

Despite aching eyes and exhausted brains, the three of us continued to talk in surprisingly calm voices, sitting on the edge of Scott's bed; it must have been there for about three hours. We challenged our son to think about whether his assumption that his peers would reject him was fair, and he challenged us to examine our feelings about conformity. Scott had been a philosopher since he could talk, so the discussion was intense, theoretical, and surprisingly sophisticated for a debate about blue hair dye. When it seemed that there was nothing more to say (or no more energy to say it), Steve and I assured Scott that we would accept whatever decision he made, and that we would be willing to help him to dye his hair, as long as he decided to do so in the next half hour. We all needed to get to sleep. Taking deep breaths, we went back to preparing for bed. Lying awake in bed, waiting for the half hour to pass, I whispered to Steve, "It's just hair."

The next morning, Scott's hair was still blond. We never asked why he chose not to dye it, as it felt akin to "I told you so" even to ask. Maybe he just couldn't handle any more talking. Maybe he, too, couldn't stay awake. It was even possible that our late-night conversation had played a role in his decision. Of course, none of us knows how his life might have been different (if at all), had Scott stayed up to dye his hair blue that night. I believe that the final choice was less important than the honest, civilized give-and-take we had managed that night. It felt good.

Before meeting the "Mohawks" on Eleuthera, I had assumed that a teen looking like their son did had to be rebelling against his parents. Like many others, I had also imagined that the kids in our town park dressed in "Goth" were experiencing a tortured angst about not having enough attention at home or being an outcast at school. My lens changed on that beach in Eleuthera, and I believe that I became a different - a more tolerant and accepting - parent.

When we want our children to look and act like the other children, in order to "fit in," often it is largely because we are worried about how their clothing, music, or behavior reflects on us and our parenting skills. Steve and I took home an unexpected lesson from the little island of Eleuthera: When the "Mohawk" boy's parents accepted their child's right to express himself in a relatively benign (albeit showy) fashion, it was an expression of trust, respect, and love, that wasn't always easy. I'm willing to bet that the same (now-41-year-old) son no longer dons a Mohawk. I imagine that he may even be a loving, respectful father to his own teenagers, grateful that his parents taught him how to see beyond the spikes, knowing what was truly important as he was growing up.

Several years later, when Scott was a boarding student at a ski academy in Vermont, we arranged to meet at his grandparents' (my parents') house for a fall weekend. My parents could not be there until Saturday, but Steve and I arrived on Friday afternoon, eagerly looking forward to having time with our son, whom we hadn't seen in several weeks.

We heard Scott's VW pull into the driveway, and Steve rushed to the door to greet him. When I heard Steve laugh out loud, I went to the window and saw Scott emerging from his car. Scott's hair was a deep, shocking blue! While he looked a bit sheepish at first, Scott visibly relaxed when he heard our giggles. It was quite a sight - a color definitely not found in nature! While the decision had seemed complicated three years earlier, we were now enjoying the fact that Scott had taken the deep blue plunge (and that he had done it without parental involvement). At fourteen, Scott was a more vulnerable, freshly decreed teen; Steve and I were more fragile, less-seasoned parents. Now, at the age of almost 18, Scott was a surprisingly independent, self-assured young man who thought it would "just be fun" to have blue hair.

Steve grabbed Scott's duffel, and I hung up his jacket. As we headed toward the living room sofa, anxious to hear about his life at the ski academy, Scott plopped himself down in front of the fire, looking up at us with a grin, "Hey, it's just hair!"

Bond With Your Kids Using Educational Puzzles

My kids won't let me get rid of any of their puzzles, yet. At almost 6 and 8 years old, they still love even their earliest 4 piece puzzles. I am not a saver. I always look very forward to having a few things to donate each time the truck comes through our neighborhood. However, anytime I bring up disposing of a puzzle, either one or both of them objects.

On the contrary, my daughter tries to save everything from lollipop wrappers to toy packaging material to dried up flowers from our yard. Now that it is summer break, I tried once again to bequeath some items including one puzzle I hoped she would agree she had really outgrown. To this her response was, "Mommy you should save this for when I have a little girl and you are a grandma". My thoughts quickly switched from encouraging her to grow out of something to trying to figure out how I can make her stay 5 years old forever!

So, I have come to terms with this and decided to pick my battles. I realize that it is great that they do still enjoy them. Although, I have made it a little more challenging for them these days as I have a bin full of mixed up pieces from all of the simpler ones for them to sift through. It makes me feel as if I have gotten more than my money's worth from such purchases. Plus, they take up very little room, especially since we have a neat little puzzle shelf. (By neat I mean that it's nifty and it helps keep the playroom tidy!) While watching them play, I also enjoy the opportunity to reminisce about the days when these puzzles were a true challenge for them. How their little brains would work so hard to fit it back together. I would be thinking just turn it, just turn it. It was so hard to stop myself from "helping". On the other hand, upon completion it was so nice to see how victorious they felt.

Puzzles are so much more than just toys. I enjoy the bonding time while working on them with my children. Not to mention all of the developmental benefits and educational value.

Toy puzzles including jumbo knob, floor, chunky and jigsaw puzzles provide an opportunity to exercise eye hand coordination and promote visual spatial awareness. Then there is the social component. Doing them encourages children to work together and share. Next, problem solving skills are utilized. Where there was once a picture, there are now several parts of a picture. How can that picture come back? Last, but certainly not at all least, there is the fine motor aspect of manipulating the pieces in order to get them into their respective positions. I especially value the puzzles that are developmentally appropriate for the child yet have a theme that encourages higher level thinking. These types of puzzles have proven to have even more value in our home. They often lead to discussions about multiple subjects. Be it farms, animal sounds, weather, transportation, getting dressed, counting, the alphabet, the human body, dinosaurs and so on, puzzles provide opportunities to engage the child's wonder in a very casual manner.

Children's Floor Puzzle - ideal for children hand-eye coordination

Hand-eye coordination begins in childhood, providing children with toys and colorful objects, they encourage them to reach and grasp. At the age of 4-5 months, the children put their hands in their field of vision, and during childhood, further progress in hand-eye coordination comes with the ability to see and grasp objects with precision. They develop the "pincer grip" during this time.

The three, four years ago, children learn to manage foodTools and small press buttons. With five years of hand-eye coordination of the child begins to move as he approaches, grab the items and press releases with precision and accuracy.

With six years of changes in visual orientation of the child as they looked to move their eyes more often and instead follow the progress of objects on the object. When they reach the age of kindergarten through the middle that make great progress in terms of speed, timing, hand-eye coordinationCoordination.

Age 3:00 to 6:00, it is important to so many opportunities for children to develop hand-eye coordination. But what to do when it snows, rains or is too dark early? Since visual feedback is essential for rapid and precise hand movements, it's important to allow children to continue to develop eye-hand coordination.

A good solution is a giant floor puzzle. These puzzles are very colorful, not in pieces large enough todamage to the baby if the facilities in their mouth, and a way to develop hand-eye coordination and learn shapes and patterns.

Over the years I have treated many children, and have watched their conduct with the floor puzzle. I take the graph of the puzzle is completely sealed in plastic, so that they can get without destroying it. The children spend much time learning the puzzle, and when they ever see an adult with them and spend timewith them and share together the puzzle. If you are older have only put together two or three times before losing interest, but always return to it when at home bored.

There are many companies offering innovative creation of a toy after another. Those most successful were the child will be happy. The choice of a toy gift for a child is difficult, here's some help:

If you are a parent you try to measure any affection in direct proportion to the cost-effectiveness would be. It 's always good to try to find the best toy for the money you have. It would be very embarrassing if your child is found, bought a bouquet of $ 100 for themselves and $ 30 toy for your baby on your special day.
Children are children whose parents have more money for them. Do not be surprised if your child Needs of every toy he / she looks at her friends place. "In this case, you need to stay cool. You do not have all the needs of your child. Whatever do you explain to your child how he's different and had different temperaments can. Some children will enjoy toys pounds more . Tell your child to you, as before, what we enjoy.
If your child only your expensive toy you can give the feeling of pleasure, you're wrong. Children love theToys> they interact with someone, especially their parents. The children would have a scrabble instead of a fancy gadget. Try to buy ones that are not only challenge the young minds, they should also bring the family together. Puzzles, books, puzzles, games are very useful vessel in the vicinity of growing interaction.
Another attractive, sharp, strong and expensive series of toys is the battery operated toys. Personally, I felt these children to find moreToys, because this magical start operating the click of a button. I doubt their usefulness. And 'perfect for a child, do not move the can, in fact, these old toys are ideal only for children under one year. If your baby moves and try to find a toy that moves by itself. Children should give years to promote circulation, toys. Therefore, the toys are the best manuals.
When the time comes for me a gift a toy to schoolThe children go, I think it's easier to be in some way that will challenge their intelligence, memory, and interactive skills. Seeking games and gifts, especially those who will rest their bodies, their attention to the television off and give their opinion with a little 'practice. Board games are cheaper if you two as a gift if you do not want to look cheap.
If you give a child something to your suggestion, you should try to give children toys outdoors. Toys maygive your child more physical activity. attractive outdoor toys for children in their immediate vicinity. This gives the child a chance to socialize, communicate and make friends with other guys. Outdoor games can prove, especially for shy children or those with any behavioral problem.
As the child grows, is made entirely in front of your responsibility to satisfy his need for information and knowledge. This is done in schools, but some children learnbetter in different places of the school. Through games, children can learn calculations, geographical places, words, stories, etc. In this way the child can stay together in studies at the same time, less stress on it.
Whenever a toy, you can also see if the child has no hobbies. Some children create treasures are as important as him. Some kids collect colored stones, cars, stuffed animals, hobbies, etc. may remain small as adults a. Only as an adult, yourChildren should not collect toys, but something more significant. If your child likes to collect, it may be reasonable and help, for a collection of her own.

There are several uses of a toy, after some of them:

- Toys, help in increasing concentration.

Bond with your children with educational puzzles

I'm always very happy for a couple of things at any time the truck goes through our neighborhood to donate. However, I always lead to provision of a puzzle, one or both objects.

Instead, my daughter tried to save everything from packaging for packaging lollipop toy bucketsthe flowers in our garden. Well, it's summer break, I tried again a few points including a mystery that I hoped would agree, he really exceeded inherit. To this the reply was: "Mom, I do it when I go to save a child, and you are a grandmother". My thoughts quickly to bear to try to grow something out of it came out how I can make five years of his stay forever!

So, I'm facing this coming and decided to take my battles. Irecognize that it is good that she is still enjoying. Although, I did a little 'harder for them these days, but are completely until all the pieces from the simplest for them to have mixed views. I feel like it would be more valuable than my money from these purchases. Furthermore, they take up little space, especially since we have a nice little puzzle shelf. (Submitted by nice I mean it's elegant, and help tidy the playroom!) Trying to play them, I alsoEnjoy the opportunity, remember the times when these puzzles were a real challenge. As the small brain would have worked so hard to fit together. I only turn, simply rotate. It 'been so hard for me to help "stop." On the other hand, after it was so nice to see how they felt about winning.

The puzzles are much more than a toy. I like the connection time while working on them with my children. Not to mentionall the benefits of development and educational value.

Toy Jumbo knob puzzles including, soil, clunky and puzzles provide an opportunity for coordination exercise for the eye and hand to promote the visual perception of space. Then there is the social aspect. Doing so encourages children together, and share work. Next skills are used to solve problems. Where once there was a photo there are several parts of an image. How can the image again? Last butcertainly not least, in all, there is the aspect of handling motor parts, to maintain their respective positions. I particularly liked the mysteries that are evolutionary for the child is a theme that promotes higher-order thinking. These types of puzzles are more valuable in our house. often lead to discussions on many topics. If companies get, the sounds of animals, weather, traffic, dressCounting, the alphabet, the human body, dinosaurs, etc., can give way puzzle involved asking the child, very casual.
